What fees does Whatnot charge sellers?
Two fees per sale: an 8% commission on the item's final sale price (excluding shipping and tax) and a payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 on the total order value. There are no listing, storage, or monthly fees.
Does Whatnot charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
The 8% commission does not — it applies only to the item's final sale price. But the 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee is calculated on the buyer's total checkout amount, which includes buyer-paid shipping and sales tax.
What does it cost to sell a $100 item on Whatnot?
Commission is $8.00 (8% of $100). If the buyer also pays $10 shipping and $9 sales tax, processing is 2.9% of $119 + $0.30 = $3.75. Total fees are about $11.75, leaving you roughly $88.25 of the item price.
Does Whatnot charge listing fees?
No. Whatnot does not charge fees to create, store, or manage listings. You only pay when an item sells.
Do trading cards, coins, or other categories get lower rates?
Coins & Money pays a reduced 4% commission, and Pallets (wholesale) is 4% for a limited time. In collectibles categories, the portion of a sale above $1,500 is currently charged 0% commission under a limited-time promotion.
Is there a fee for canceling an order on Whatnot?
Yes, if the cancellation is within your control: $3 or 3% of the order total, whichever is higher. Your first cancellation fee is waived, and accepting a buyer-requested cancellation is free.
Worth knowing before you list
- Whatnot's 8% commission applies to the item price only — but the 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee is charged on the buyer's full checkout total including shipping and sales tax, so real processing runs slightly higher than shown here (we can't know your buyer's tax).
- Fees are per checkout transaction: a buyer purchasing five times during a show pays five $0.30 transaction fees, even if everything ships as one bundle.
- In collectibles categories (comics, TCG, sports singles, toys, bags, jewelry), the portion of a sale above $1,500 currently carries 0% commission — a limited-time promotion this calculator doesn't model.
- Canceling an order for a reason within your control costs $3 or 3% of the order total, whichever is higher (first one is waived).
- If you offer free or reduced shipping, that cost comes out of your earnings on top of fees; giveaways carry no fees but you pay the shipping.
- High-volume sellers can pay less: Premier Shops get a relative 10% commission discount (8% → 7.2%), and an invite-only 'Sell More, Earn More' test lowers commission as far as 3% in some categories.
